Green Rug Cleaning Keeps Your Family Healthy and Safe

“Green cleaning” is today’s big buzz word in the cleaning services industry. Customers are more environmentally aware than ever before which has made green cleaning NYC a popular customer choice. When requesting green cleaning services, most customers do so for two reasons:

  1. in home cleaningTo minimize exposing their family, children and/or pets to harsh cleaning compounds
  2. To minimize the impact of cleaning solutions on the environment.

Often incorrectly, rug cleaning NYC customers assume that a service provider’s green cleaning services will meet both criteria. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Everyone from laundry services to maid services to rug cleaners are offering “green” cleaning services, but pinning down exactly what a service provider means by “green” can be difficult and not a little confusing. In the absence of an industry-wide standard, each service company defines “green cleaning” in its own unique way.

Some rug cleaning NYC services define “green” rather narrowly, limiting their definition to the use of cleaning solutions that are environmentally-friendly. These firms may clean your rugs using eco- friendly cleaning solutions, then turn around and irresponsibly dump the chemically-laden wastewater into the storm sewer after they leave your home. To be truly “green,” Rug Renovating believes that a rug cleaner’s environmental responsibility should extend beyond the selection of eco-friendly cleaning solutions to include the entire cleaning process, including equipment, cleaning procedures, and waste collection and disposal.

At Rug Renovating, we adhere to the definition of green cleaning developed by Dr. Steve Spivak, PhD, chairman of the Science Advisory Council for the Cleaning Industry Research Institute and an internationally-known expert in the cleaning industry:

“Cleaning green, a preferred term otherwise known as ‘green cleaning,’ comprises environmentally-responsible management with care, maintenance, cleaning and renovation procedures. It is achieved by employing products, formulations, equipment, procedures or systems intended to minimize any harmful environmental impact and maximize sustainability of natural and built environments.”
