Rug Cleaning Process | Rug Renovating NY NJ CT

We know you cherish your household treasures. To keep those treasures spotless we offer a wide variety of cleaning and restoration services that will help promote good indoor air quality and extend the lifespan of your home furnishings.

Never ever allow a wall-to-wall carpet cleaning firm to clean an Oriental or area rug in your home. It may sound good, easier and cheaper but there is nothing you can do that will harm your rugs more than this.

When a cleaner attempts to clean a rug in the home with a hot water extraction machine (better known as steam cleaning) the top half of the rug in most cases becomes saturated with detergent while the bottom half remains untouched by the detergent. As quickly as the solution is sprayed onto the rug it is extracted by the machine's vacuum. This process never really gets the dirt and grit out of the bottom half of the rug's foundation.

At our state-of-the-art solar paneled facility, we generate all of the electricity we use. With our high standard of using environmentally responsible cleaning processes that have been tested and proven, you can be assured that we use safe materials for people, pets, and the environment.

From The Outhouse Back To The Penthouse

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Fri, Dec 15, 2017 @ 01:27 PM

This modern handmade Bamboo Silk Rug 8-6 x 11-4 came into us for cleaning. Needless to say we were completely blown away by the condition it was in.

We called the owner and discussed the problems and told him we would do our best but not to expect “miracles”. The client said he completely understood and was aware of the condition and gave us the okay to proceed.

Never one to back down from a challenge, we got to work on this rug and after several cleanings and grooming of the pile we were very proud of the final out come.

That’s why when we get rugs in a similar condition we like to say that we were able to take this rug from the OUTHOUSE and bring it back to the PENTHOUSE.

Please never wait this long to have us clean your valuable rugs and carpets!!

Hand Cleaning of Large 50 Year Old Handmade Persian Rug

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Fri, Dec 08, 2017 @ 09:44 AM

We were asked by a longtime famous Rug Dealer in New York City to restore and hopefully bring back to life a 50 year old hand made Persian (Iranian) super fine wool and silk Tabriz Rug, valued in excess of $100,000.00.

IMG_5932 2.jpg

Apparently the rug belonged to a customer of his and it was involved in a flood, where dirty water affected about 50% - 60% of the rug, causing it to be discolored and stained with the dirt, debris and other particles in the water.

Adobe Spark (1)-1.jpg

The water damage also caused many of the colors in the rug to run and bleed into the other colors as well as the beige background.

Because of the extremely high value of the rug the client wanted the restoration work done in segments. First was the cleaning. The rug was thoroughly washed to remove the dirt, discoloration and smell. The trick is to perform this service while not causing more of the fugitive dyes to bleed further. We successfully did this.

We sent the rug back to the importer for his inspection and told him we could remove much of the color run by implementing our hand restoration technics and the application of proprietary chemicals.

The importer spoke with his client and agreed to have us complete the restoration. So off to work we went and through a combination of hand technics, various applications of chemicals and two more completed wet cleanings we brought the rug back to about 85% - 90% of its pre-loss condition. The rug was dried as carefully as it was washed so as to not have any more color run.

The importer was happy and the client now had their valued rug back in very good condition and ready to be used for another 50 years.

It’s Like Plastic Surgery For Rugs!!

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Nov 09, 2017 @ 11:18 AM

image007.jpgThis handmade 8 x 10 Tibetan rug designed by MADELINE WEINRIB was in need of a good cleaning. It had been pretty BADLY STAINED due to a very large glass of wine trying to defy gravity!!

So we put the rug through our hand cleaning process to remove the loose soil and the sticky greasy dirt on the front and the back of the rug.

After cleaning the rug looked great but it had those really large almost permanent stains that cleaning just couldn’t remove.  So we called on our In-House Chemical Engineer and he said he would do his best to REMOVE THE STAINING. Off he went and two weeks later the patient has been completely cured (virtually a 98% improvement). Now the rug is ready to resume it’s life as a beautiful handmade work of art.

Oh yes – most importantly – the client was thrilled!!

RUG RENOVATING believes in the value of hands-on, personalized approach when providing services to our clients. This is our secret to gaining the trust of families when it comes to their carpet and rug needs. We have over 500,000 customers who trust us for their fine carpet and rug care.

Rug Weaving In China | Rug Renovating A Family-Owned Business With 120 Years of History

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Apr 06, 2017 @ 02:45 PM

The basic techniques of rug making were first developed in the East. Traditional Oriental rugs were made on vertical looms strung with 3 to 24 warp (vertical) threads per cm. Working from bottom to top, the rug makers below either weaved the rug with a flat surface or used knots for a textured pile.

The Summertime Survival Guide for your Rug

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Wed, Jul 02, 2014 @ 10:11 AM

Summer SunIt’s summertime. It’s hot, it’s sunny, and it’s humid. This time of year conjures up memories of mom or dad trying to slather the sunblock on you before you left to catch the bus to camp or left with your friends for the beach.

However, your skin isn’t the only victim of the damaging effects of the sun’s UVB rays. Remember the rug in your living room? You know, the one your parents would yell at you for getting all wet when you came inside from the pool party? The heat and sun can rough those up as well. No matter what the color of your rug or carpet is, UV light will fade colors over time.  Certain colors, especially red and blue, are prone to sun-fading and chemical damage from various detergent cleaners.

You may be thinking, “It’s fine. I can turn on my air conditioning to keep the house cool.” Well, that may work in the short term, but once you rack up a sky-high energy bill, you’ll think twice about that strategy.

Here are some quick, cost-effective ways to keep your rugs and furniture in top shape during the sweltering summer months:

1.)   In the morning, before you leave the house, shut the windows, and close the blinds or drapes. If you must, turn the A/C on low. The house is the coolest in the early morning, so the air conditioning unit won’t have to work as hard since the house is already cool. This will save you money.

2.)   Use protective window treatments, such as ultraviolet blocking window shades and coatings. These are available at stores like Home Depot and can be purchased online for as little as $40.

3.)   Use carpet/rug protectors, such as Rug Renovating’s Fiber-Guard UV. This offers another layer of protection for your carpets and rugs, especially from any stains resulting from spilled liquid from the pool party cocktail table, dirty shoes from the baseball field, or sandy feet from the beach.

4.)   If all else fails, simply try keeping your prized rugs, carpets, or furniture away from direct sunlight. Even if the floor coverings are in the middle of the room, it’s better than having them directly next to the window.

So there you have it. These are just a few tips to ensure that your rug won’t suffer the same fate as your skin during the summer months.

How Can You Save a Damaged Family Heirloom (a treasured rug)?

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Mon, Dec 02, 2013 @ 10:27 AM

When it comes to a family heirloom that becomes damaged, such as your favorite valuable rug, critical steps must be taken in order to save it. Because it's precious to you and your family, we make sure to take special care of it. Below are the top five steps we take when dealing with a valuable rug.

1. We will come to your house and pick up the rug and bring it back to our facility. Remember: never, ever allow a wall-to-wall carpet cleaning company to clean an oriental rug in your home. Although it may sound cheaper, it will ruin it. We will look at your rug and determine which cleaning method is most effective. For instance, we may go with Luster Wash, which is the ultimate cleaning for most rugs and carpets. We use our specially designed washing equipment which allows solution to penetrate the deepest layer of the rug's nap. This process removes ground-in dirt, gently, without crushing wool, which is necessary when it comes to your valuable rug. In most cases, this process will also restore the original look and texture.

2. For rugs that need particularly special care, we will go with our Hand or Dry Rug Cleaning method. All work is done by hand. This process is recommended for silk rugs, extremely fragile textiles, or rugs that have "fugitive" dyes which may run in a wet cleaning method. If your family heirloom is very old and needs that additional special attention, we may go with this method.

3. If your family heirloom needs further care, we may turn to our Restoration Services, which is a special formulated cleaning process done by hand by one of our Certified Rug Specialists. This is the finest, most gentle and thorough cleaning available for rugs that are old, fragile, valuable and warrant extraordinary care. This is a distinguished service provided by very few rug cleaning companies in the tri-state area. Some rugs that may need this cleaning process include: Agras, Aubussons, Bijars, Heriz, Hamaden, Keshans, Lavar Kermans, Tabriz, Nichols Chinese, Sarouks, Savoneriees, Serapi, etc.

4. We also offer Repair Services and Reweaving. Our master craftspeople can do almost any type of repair on both antique and contemporary handmade rugs, custom made rugs, machine made rugs such as Karastans and Couristan and broadloom carpets. We can expertly reweave holes, renap worn areas, restore moth damage, repair seams, reduce a rug's size, rewrap the binding on the side, reweave worn or missing fringes, sew on artificial fringes, unravel and overcast worn fringes and patch holes. We can also sew on fabric and leather borders as well as machine binding and serging the sides or ends of the rug.

5. Finally, we can Fiber-Guard your family heirloom, in efforts to protect it from stains, soil and wear. It is a safe, non-toxic, invisible stain protection for all soft surfaces. It provides superior top-to-bottom protection on each and every fiber in handmade rugs and carpets, wall-to-wall carpet, fabric and leather furniture, wall fabrics and draperies. Fiber-Guard will not wear off like other stain repellents and it will leave your fabric's color, feel and texture unchanged while remaining safe and non-toxic.

“You can be assured that Rug Renovating will always have my business.  You all do a great job - keep it up. In this day and age where computers reign supreme and no personal service is available, it is refreshing to deal with your staff.”~ Rita Harding

Rita’s Experience with Rug Renovating

Rug Renovating came to Rita’s home to pick up her Oriental Rug to perform In-Plant Oriental Rug Cleaning. As a prior customer of Rug Renovating, Rita reached out to our representatives directly for her regular service this past fall.

Rita’s Level of Satisfaction

When asked about her satisfaction level in regards to the services that we performed, Rita was quoted as saying,  “I was more than satisfied with the work that was done and the men that came to our home were terrific. Very professional.”

Rita’s Talks about the Entire Service Experience

At Rug Renovating, our trained professional staff of customer service reps work with your schedule to coordinate the pick up and delivery of your fine interior fabrics for our in-plant cleaning services. Your oriental and area rugs are picked up from your home and taken to our state of the art facility where the carpet is immersed with water and our exclusive cleaning formulas. Rug Renovating’s specially designed washing equipment allows solutions to penetrate freely to the deepest layer of the rug’s nap.

“Everything from making my appointment to the pick-up and delivery went very smoothly.  The rugs were delivered in beautiful condition; the men knew exactly what to do (including getting the rug under the queen size bed effortlessly; same with the removal).  They were in and out in no time.

I expected my husband and I would have to help but they reassured me not to worry.  They were careful to the point of putting the little covers over their feet so they would not soil the rug. Just a great experience all around.” ~ Rita Harding

At Rug Renovating, we strive to provide the highest quality of service and delivery for each client’s experience. We are incredibly proud of the experienced staff in all the service roles at Rug Renovating. Sharing Our Knowledge

While we are in business to service, repair and restore the fabrics of our clients’ homes, it is important for us to be available as a resource for industry knowledge and information.  Our technicians are available for consultation in our clients’ homes to address any questions regarding the steps to take to address a problem or for maintenance information. Our website is loaded with information on stain tips, vacuuming techniques and scheduling and a wealth of other information for the care of the fabrics in your home.

When our rugs were delivered, we were given a sheet of information regarding stains on oriental rugs.  Since I have a cat, there have been instances when I have followed that information to remove stains and it was most helpful.” ~ Rita Harding
