5 Things for Your Home and Fall To-Do List

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Sep 27, 2018 @ 11:21 AM

You probably give your home a deep clean in the spring, but you should also show it some love at the beginning of fall. Here's where to start:

42585830_699907277042654_1382529962329767936_o

1. Perform a pantry audit.

First, remove all the cans and boxes from the shelves, and vacuum away any lingering dust or crumbs (a lot can build up in a few months!). Then, inspect each item, tossing anything that is expired or past its prime. Consult this shelf-life chart as a helpful guide.

2. Test smoke detectors and clean vents/ducts.

You already know to put fresh batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors (doing it on the days you change the clocks for Daylight Saving Time is an easy way to remember). If any are more than 10 years old, replace them. But you also need to clean your dryer vents & air ducts, since dust that accumulates can cause them to underperform or start a house fire!

3. Flip your mattress.

When you turn back your clocks, turn your mattress over, too. If you can't flip it because it has a pillowtop, rotate it 180 degrees to prevent body impressions form causing certain spots to slump. Sprinkle the mattress with baking soda to neutralize odors, and then vacuum it up.

4. Clean your rugs and carpet.

Get a jump on holiday party season by giving your rugs and carpeting a good scrub. We recommend getting a professional cleaning once a year to keep up.

5. Vacuum all upholstered surfaces.

You think your couch is clean until you plop on it, and a haze of dust appears around you. Give sofas and chairs a good vacuuming, making sure to hit both sides of the cushions, the back, sides, arms, and even the platform underneath the cushions. We also recommend getting a professional upholstery cleaning once a year.

Fall Allergies: Simple Tips to Keep Them Out of Our Homes

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Aug 30, 2018 @ 12:55 PM

AutumnportraitofcutesmilinglittlegirlwithmapleleavesFall brings a kaleidoscope of colors, cooler temperatures and, for many of us, the onset of major allergy season. As the leaves fall and the season brings sometimes very wet weather there area few typical triggers for fall allergies. The biggest offenders are ragweed, mold and dust mites.

Ragweed is a major cause of fall allergies. In most parts of the country, ragweed will continue to release pollen into November. Mold is another major cause of allergy symptoms. Piles of leaves and damp areas outside and inside the home are places where mold can quickly grow. Dust mites, eager to get out of the cooler weather, will migrate into our homes and accumulate in all of our most comfortable places like furniture, beds, rugs, and carpet.

Luckily, with some planning and organization, it can be relatively easy to deal with these triggers and minimize the impact of fall allergy season. Here are several tips to keep you one step ahead:

  1. Clean all vents and air filters in your home prior to turning on heating units.
  2. Keep on a regular schedule of dusting your home and use damp cloths which help contain the dust instead of just spreading it around.
  3. Wash your sheets and bedding on a regular basis…weekly is recommended.
  4. Keep shower curtains clean. The bottom edge of fabric shower curtains is a prime spot for mold to grow.
  5. Vacuum as often as possible and use a HEPA-filter machine if you can.
  6. It’s good practice to have your carpets, rugs, and upholstery cleaned by a professional regularly. For carpets, 2-3 times per year is the recommended schedule. Fall is the perfect time to prepare your home for holiday festivities and remove built-up dirt, bacteria, and other allergens.

Post-Holiday Cleaning Tips And How To Tackle Them | Carpet, Rug And Upholstery Cleaning NY NJ and CT

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Jan 18, 2018 @ 02:49 PM

Holidays can make even the most rational person wish the man in the red suit had a magic potion with our name on it. With all the stress of cooking, preparation, and gifting, the last thing you want is to tackle is the mess left. If no one thought to give you a gift card for maid service, here are a few ways to handle post-holiday cleaning:

From spilled beverages to plates in the sink, it’s best to deal with messes as you go. While it might seem exhausting to clean as you go, it’s a lot less stressful than facing a mountain of dishes and no clean forks. Spills are less likely to become set-in stains if handled immediately.

However, there are always at least a few rug or carpet stains that magically appear after the holidays! You obviously want to treat any stains as soon as possible, but sometimes you don’t always notice them right away.

Like the carpets, upholstery can take a beating during the holidays from all of the use and abuse. The earlier you can treat the stains the better, so don’t leave this one for too long!

You will save yourself a lot of energy if you break down the tasks into manageable chunks. Remove the stress of post-holiday cleaning by deciding what must be done now and what can wait. Cleaning your kitchen must be done now, while making your guest bed with freshly laundered sheets can probably wait.

And although, we do try to keep up with the basic bathroom cleaning {especially in the guest bathrooms!} over the holidays, they will definitely be in need of a good deep cleaning afterwards. Scrub the tile in your shower and bath, wipe down the mirrors and the sink, wash the towels, mop the floors, and clean the toilet.

But, seriously. Holiday gatherings are all about togetherness and enjoyment of the good times. So, the last tip is this: ask for the help of a professional! Treat yourself and your family to a clean house and a relaxed environment when they next get home. That leaves time for you to get your not-so-New-Years-resolutions set into motion.

Bombardier Global Business Jet Upholstered Furniture, Leather And Carpet Cleaning Project | December 2017

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Dec 07, 2017 @ 04:14 PM

We were hired to clean the carpeting, matts, leather and UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE in this Beautiful Bombardier Global Business Jet. It is one of the largest business jets made.

image001.jpg

The trick was to schedule a time when the jet wasn’t busy flying around the world.  The carpet is made of a blend of wool and silk and had to be hand cleaned.

The leather seats were hand clean and conditioned as well as the UPHOLSTERED COUCHES.

After the cleaning was performed we came back the next day and applied a specialty stain protection formula that has been approved for the aeronautical industry by the Boeing Company.

The work RUG RENOVATING performed was embraced by the airplane managers and the next day the plane was flying off to another destination.

Preparing Your Home For The Holidays | Professional Upholstery, Carpet And Rug Cleaning NYC And Surrounding Areas

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Oct 19, 2017 @ 02:36 PM

Whether your guests are staying just for the day or will be overnight visitors, this holiday cleaning checklist will help make your home as inviting and comfortable as possible.

AdobeStock_3414263.jpegEntrance
Make sure all outdoor lighting is functioning properly and is turned on when it is dark. Another important precaution to ensure your guest’s safety.
Establish a place to collect all warm weather apparel, including boots. Add extra hangers to your coat closet or designate a room to collect these. You should also consider adding an extra doormat for those wet boots and have your rugs professionally cleaned. If you plan for this ahead of time your entrance won’t become a cluttered mess.

Living Area
This area gets a lot of traffic.  It is a good time to schedule a professional carpet and upholstery cleaning before your guests arrive. Clean the windows so that guests can clearly see your outside decorations.

Bathrooms
If the tile looks dingy, replacing it or even new grout can give a fresh look to a bathroom. Make sure the bathroom fan and window are in operating condition. Ventilation is an important part of keeping your bathroom clean and mildew-free.
Make sure you have enough guest bath and/or hand towels. Consider special towels with a holiday theme to keep with the spirit of the season.

AdobeStock_47523261.jpegKitchen
The kitchen has become an essential room for entertaining with the popularity and ease of serving food buffet style. To provide more space, try installing appliances under countertops or consider investing in a kitchen island. Check the condition of the countertops, cabinets, and appliances. Replacing the appliances can make a huge difference when you’re preparing meals for large groups.

Guest rooms
Make sure the guest beds have fresh linens. Clear some closet space or a drawer to make your guests feel more at home. No one likes to live out of a suitcase.
Provide your guests with a bedside clock and reading lamp. Not everyone goes to sleep or wakes at the same time.
